When You Have Your Periods, Do You:
Feel weary, physically and mentally exhausted, and unable to function at your best?
Feel stressed, moody, or even depressed?
Feel agonizing cramps that leave you bedridden all day?
Feel pains in your chest?
Feel you want to gobble an entire cake and other food cravings?

Girl, I feel you! As a woman, it can be a complete hassle in our lives.
Imagine going on a vacation with your friends, and suddenly, painful cramps hit you on the exact day. That’s a bummer! We often wish we should’ve been born a guy instead, as they don’t have to deal with these every month. What’s worse, chances are, we weren’t properly educated about menstrual health when we were younger.
When you had your first period, did your parents explain how and why we got our periods? Probably not. You see, nearly half of the girls in our population—almost 44%—don’t know what’s happening to them when they have their first period.

And roughly 60% of them are afraid to talk about their periods.
Several women refuse to talk about periods because of the lack of education and taboos surrounding menstruation. We simply accept that we must endure menstrual pains every month and move on. That’s why in this short letter, I’ll reveal the burning question we have had since our early adolescence. By understanding this, you’ll know the single, biggest reason why we have PMS and painful cramps every month.
You’ll also know the exact reason why most period relief solutions in the market fall short and are ineffective. Identifying this will give you a clue about what we could do to have better and more tolerable cycles.

The drink was surprisingly delicious, and within minutes her bloating had subsided. She also felt less moody and irritable. Best of all, her cramps were virtually gone! Sarah quickly became obsessed with the drink and soon found herself craving it throughout her menstrual cycle. Fluctuating Hormones MAY Be The Reason for These Period
Symptoms to Show Up
Scientific studies show that these period-related issues might stem from hormonal fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone levels.
These fluctuations cause us to have the following:
Bloating
Hormonal Acne Breakouts
Mood swings
Breast Tenderness
Fatigue
These fluctuations occur at certain phases of our menstrual cycle. And hear me out, alot of women aren’t aware of these 4 phases of the menstrual cycle!
And hear me out, a lot of women aren’t aware of these 4 phases of the menstrual cycle! When their period arrives, they bleed and suffer from cramps and lower back pain.
When their period arrives, they bleed and suffer from cramps and lower back pain. So, let me explain each of these phases to have a better understanding of our menstruation.

Menstrual Phase
(Occurs at Day 1 - 5 on Average)

This is the phase where you actually get your periods. Here, you release a combination of blood, mucus, and tissues from the uterus during this phase.
The menstrual phase happens if the egg from the previous cycle isn’t fertilized. And if pregnancy doesn’t occur, progesterone and estrogen levels drop.
Once this happens, your uterus contracts, and the lining is shed and expelled out the body since it is no longer needed.
In case you don’t know, the purpose of this uterine lining is to provide sustenance and nourishment to the embryo, making this a crucial component in pregnancy.
This uterine contraction is what causes your menstrual cramps. Hormone-like lipids called prostaglandins are involved with inflammation. Higher levels of prostaglandins lead to more painful menstrual cramps.
“But what’s the role of prostaglandins during my period?”
Whenever there’s any damage or infection in your body, the prostaglandins keep these under control, which causes pain as a part of your body's healing process.
You see, when the uterine lining gets shed, your body releases large amounts of prostaglandins that contract your uterine muscles and constrict blood vessels. This is where you get your menstrual cramps.
Not only will you experience cramps, but you may also experience the following symptoms during the menstrual phase:
Fatigue
Bloating
Mood Swings
Lower Back Pain
Breast Tenderness

Follicular Phase
(Occurs at Day 1 - 13 on Average)

In this phase, your ovaries produce new eggs to prepare for the next ovulation. It starts when the pituitary gland in your brain releases follicle-stimulating hormones (FSH). These hormones stimulate the ovaries to produce follicles that contain an immature egg.
These hormones stimulate the ovaries to produce follicles that contain an immature egg. Now, most of the time, only one egg will mature.
And when the follicle is in the process of maturity, it sends off a surge of estrogen. This creates the lining in your uterus for the embryo to grow. (Remember? This is the same lining that gets shed during the menstrual phase if the woman doesn’t get pregnant.)

Ovulation Phase
(Occurs at Day 14 on Average)

When the estrogen rises during the follicular phase, your pituitary gland releases the luteinizing hormone (LH).
Its purpose is to release the mature egg from the ovary, which we call the “ovulation” process. The mature egg then travels down to the fallopian tube and then to the uterus for the sperm to fertilize it.
Since the egg is matured at this stage, the pituitary gland stops making FSH and shifts toward making more LH. And here’s a fact. This is the phase where a woman can get pregnant. Another thing is that it is also possible to get pregnant 5 days before ovulation.
Now, this phase lasts for 24 hours only. If the egg isn’t fertilized after a day, the mature egg dies.

Luteal Phase
(Occurs at Day 15 - 28 on Average)

When the follicle releases the mature egg, it becomes the corpus luteum. It starts to form as soon as the mature egg is released.
Now, the purpose of the corpus luteum is to produce progesterone. It keeps the uterine lining thick and ready for the implantation of the fertilized egg.
If you get pregnant, the body produces Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) that maintains the thickness of the uterine lining.
However, if you don’t get pregnant, the corpus luteum dies, the progesterone and estrogen levels go down, and the uterine lining sheds. This starts the next menstrual cycle right in the menstrual phase.
So, when that happens, you may start experiencing PMS symptoms during the luteal phase like:
Bloating
Food Cravings
Mood Changes
Acne Breakouts
Breast Tenderness
Trouble in Sleeping
When you’re having cramps during your menstrual phase, most likely, people recommend hot bottles or heating pads.
Now, while they may provide muscle relief, they are not targeting the big picture here: hormonal fluctuations.
You might experience relief from cramps, but the hormonal acne and friends are still there.
You could also opt for painkillers or birth control pills.
This is what big pharma loves to promote. Yes, those pills may work. However, do you know the ingredients that go inside them?

And lastly, you have these PMS gummies riddled with nauseating artificial flavoring that make your PMS worse than helping.

What Makes The Dotty Shake Special?
The Dotty Shake isn’t your run-of-the-mill chocolate drink like the ones in your local supermarket.
It has a unique blend of 6 superfoods designed to help provide relief during the menstrual and luteal phases of your cycle.

Chasteberry
In the Mediterranean regions, chaste berries were a popular herb during the Middle Ages to manage PMS symptoms. This herb helps reduce the effects of PMS during the luteal phase by rebalancing the estrogen and progesterone levels. Chaste berries can help:
• Support a better mood.
• Maintains skin confidence on your face.
• Alleviates discomfort in the body.

Red Raspberry Leaf
Known as the “woman’s herb.” Red raspberry leaves are widely used to induce labor during pregnancy, support a healthy lifestyle, and provide relief during the menstrual phase.
Red raspberry leaves can help:
• Reduce muscle contractions in the uterus that cause painful cramps.
• Increase iron levels that help produce more red blood cells to combat blood loss during menstruation.
• Control free radicals, which promote healthy cells and may lower oxidative stress.

Red Raspberry Leaf
Red raspberries offer a host of surprising health benefits:
Some research supports the anecdotal evidence of women saying that the leaves help relieve premenstrual symptoms (PMS), such as cramps, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. Red raspberry leaves contain fragrance, a plant compound that helps tone and tighten muscles in the pelvic area. This helps reduce the menstrual cramping caused by the spasms of these muscles.
An ounce (28 grams) of red raspberry leaves pack 3.3 mg of iron – 18% of the recommended daily intake (RDI) for women aged 19–50. Getting enough iron can combat the anemia often experienced by women with heavy menstrual cycles.

Ginseng
For thousands of years, Asian countries like China, Korea, and Japan have used ginseng in traditional cuisines and medicines. Ginseng has been a priced herb due to its numerous health benefits. Studies have shown that ginseng can help:
• Reduce inflammation and cellular damage from free radicals.
• Boost energy levels and support better physical performance.
• Maintains a proper brain cognitive function, like better mood, and may improve memory.
• Supports a healthy immune system.

Ginger
One of the world's most important roots. It contains anti-prostaglandins, gingerols, and shogaols that target pain and bloating.
Ginger has certain compounds that help protect against increases in inflammation. It does this by inhibiting your body's production of prostaglandins. They are one of the chemicals responsible for triggering the muscle contractions that shed the lining of your uterus.
Menstrual cramps have been linked to excessive production of prostaglandins, so it is believed that consuming ginger as a dietary supplement, tea, or something else can help reduce cramps.

Chasteberry
Chasteberries have been used for centuries in traditional medicine to treat various conditions, including menstrual cramps, PMS, acne, and hot flashes.
It's thought that chaste berry influences the release of certain hormones in the brain, including prolactin and progesterone. This can help to regulate the menstrual cycle and ease PMS symptoms like bloating, mood swings, and breast tenderness.

Ginger
Despite being a common household spice in Southeast Asia, gingers have multiple health benefits. It was so popular that it was known throughout the Roman Empire and became a priced commodity in Europe. Studies show that ginger can help:
• Reduce inflammation and cellular damage from free radicals.
• Alleviate menstrual cramps.
• Lessen bloatedness.
• Provide relief from nausea.

Ginseng
Ginseng is an herbal root used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. It's thought to have various health benefits, including reducing stress, boosting energy levels, and aiding digestion. Some studies have even shown that ginseng can help to relieve menstrual cramps. Additionally, ginseng is thought to contain compounds that can help to balance hormone levels. This can help alleviate symptoms associated with PMS, such as mood swings and irritability.

Calcium and Vitamin D3
This nutrient duo is known for supporting healthy bones and muscles. But little did we know that there’s more to it than helping support our bones and muscles. Calcium and Vitamin D3 can also help:
• Reduce PMS effects during the luteal phase, like water retention, food cravings, and cramps.
• Promote better overall health.
• Regulate mood.
• Support the immune system.

Calcium + Vitamin D
Calcium is a mineral that's essential for strong bones and teeth. It's also necessary for proper muscle function and nerve transmission. Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium and is necessary for maintaining bone density. Both calcium and vitamin D are available in supplement form, as well as in certain foods.
It's thought that calcium and vitamin D work by helping to relax the muscles in the uterus. This can, in turn, help to reduce cramping. In addition, these nutrients may also help to regulate hormone levels, which can play a role in PMS symptoms like mood swings and bloating.
