The Ultimate “Period Hack” That Women Are Searching For

One Girl Shares Her Period Horror Story And How She Came Across An Unusual PMS-Relief Drink That Changed Her Life Forever

“Sorry, bestie, I can’t make it to the beach party tonight….”
“Why can’t you come? You have been looking forward to this party for weeks and were excited about this day. Did something happen?”
“Sorry. It’s just that time of the month….”
I replied to my best friend with tears while curling up on my bed. I munched down on my third chocolate bar while wrapping myself in a blanket like a burrito.I’ve been looking forward to this beach party with my college friends for a while now. But Aunty Flo had to visit me.
My premenstrual phase started right on the day of the party I was looking forward to.My infuriating premenstrual syndrome (PMS) ruined my most exciting day.My “want to slap someone” meter had just gone through the roof.I was downright furious, disappointed, and miserable.
Also, my lower back would hurt like crazy, my breasts would feel full and heavy, and I feel mentally exhausted. It’s a sign that I’m about to have my period. To make matters worse…

I Would Feel Jealous of My Friends as They Don't Have Severe PMS Like I Do.

Their period feels like it’s just a walk in the park.Meanwhile, my period feels like an end-of-the-world scenario where my body is against me.I would even curse the universe for why this is all happening to me every month.

“I wish I wasn’t born a girl! Being a girl sucks! My life would be much better if I were born a man!”

I would have these random thoughts in my head, wishing I didn’t become a girl from time to time.Because every month, I would have a disgusting acne breakout, agonizing pains, and emotional turmoil.  Yet, some women were fortunate not to go through this uphill battle every month.

You See, 3 Out of 4 Women Experience Terrible PMS Every Month

When experiencing my dreaded PMS, I try to hide them from my family and peers.Talking about periods tends to be embarrassing for me. I would die of embarrassment if I did.I would tell them I’m okay, but in reality, I’m suffering in silence.

I don’t open up to people about the things I’m experiencing during my period. It feels like period topics are taboo.Even if I do, they’ll tell me I’m overreacting.
“Walk it off. It’s not that bad.”
“Stop overreacting!”
“Bear with the pain. It’s not that bad.”
I mean, are you kidding me?!?We girls must go through these REAL things every month, yet they have the nerve to belittle our challenges every month.

The Truth About Periods And Why We Experience PMS Every Month

I researched how periods work and why we have these symptoms every month. And this was an eye-opening discovery. I feel that I cracked the code. While this is nothing new, most women aren’t even aware of this.I found out that all women have 4 phases in the menstrual cycle.

Menstrual Phase

(Occurs at Day 1 - 5 on Average)

This is the phase where you actually get your periods. Here, you release a combination of blood, mucus, and tissues from the uterus during this phase. The menstrual phase happens if the egg from the previous cycle isn’t fertilized. And if pregnancy doesn’t occur, progesterone and estrogen levels drop.

Once this happens, your uterus contracts, and the lining is shed and expelled out the body since it is no longer needed. Once this happens, your uterus contracts, and the lining is shed and expelled out the body since it is no longer needed.

In case you don’t know, the purpose of this uterine lining is to provide sustenance and nourishment to the embryo, making this a crucial component in pregnancy. This uterine contraction is what causes your menstrual cramps. Hormone-like lipids called prostaglandins are involved with inflammation. Higher levels of prostaglandins lead to more painful menstrual cramps.

“But what’s the role of prostaglandins during my period?”Whenever there’s any damage or infection in your body, the prostaglandins keep these under control, which causes pain as a part of your body's healing process.

You see, when the uterine lining gets shed, your body releases large amounts of prostaglandins that contract your uterine muscles and constrict blood vessels. This is where you get your menstrual cramps.

Not only will you experience cramps, but you may also experience the following symptoms during the menstrual phase:

  • Fatigue

  • Bloating

  • Mood Swings

  • Lower Back Pain

  • Breast Tenderness

Follicular Phase

(Occurs at Day 1 - 13 on Average)

In this phase, your ovaries produce new eggs to prepare for the next ovulation.

It starts when the pituitary gland in your brain releases follicle-stimulating hormones (FSH).

These hormones stimulate the ovaries to produce follicles that contain an immature egg (6).

Follicular Phase

(Occurs at Day 1 - 13 on Average)

In this phase, your ovaries produce new eggs to prepare for the next ovulation. It starts when the pituitary gland in your brain releases follicle-stimulating hormones (FSH). These hormones stimulate the ovaries to produce follicles that contain an immature egg. Now, most of the time, only one egg will mature.

And when the follicle is in the process of maturity, it sends off a surge of estrogen. This creates the lining in your uterus for the embryo to grow. (Remember? This is the same lining that gets shed during the menstrual phase if the woman doesn’t get pregnant.)

Ovulation Phase

(Occurs at Day 14 on Average)

When the estrogen rises during the follicular phase, your pituitary gland releases the luteinizing hormone (LH). Its purpose is to release the mature egg from the ovary, which we call the “ovulation” process. The mature egg then travels down to the fallopian tube and then to the uterus for the sperm to fertilize it.

Since the egg is matured at this stage, the pituitary gland stops making FSH and shifts toward making more LH.And here’s a fact. This is the phase where a woman can get pregnant. Another thing is that it is also possible to get pregnant 5 days before ovulation. Now, this phase lasts for 24 hours only. If the egg isn’t fertilized after a day, the mature egg dies.

Luteal Phase

(Occurs at Day 15 - 28 on Average)

When the follicle releases the mature egg, it becomes the corpus luteum. It starts to form as soon as the mature egg is released. Now, the purpose of the corpus luteum is to produce progesterone. It keeps the uterine lining thick and ready for the implantation of the fertilized egg.If you get pregnant, the body produces Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) that maintains the thickness of the uterine lining.

However, if you don’t get pregnant, the corpus luteum dies, the progesterone and estrogen levels go down, and the uterine lining sheds. This starts the next menstrual cycle right in the menstrual phase.

So when that happens, you may start experiencing PMS symptoms during the luteal phase like:

  • Bloating

  • Food Cravings

  • Mood Changes

  • Acne Breakouts

  • Breast Tenderness

  • Trouble in Sleeping

When The First Time I Read This, I Was Mind-Blown

It was fascinating that our bodies could do such things. I guess being a woman isn’t so bad after all. Having the ability to conceive a new life is such a blessing. But that doesn’t solve the fact that we are still experiencing those period issues that could interfere with our lives.

When I was a young teenager, my mom told me that these periods happen every month, and I never got a clear answer on why these occur. She just told me that this is what I should do when my period comes:

  • Takes on painkillers to help alleviate the pain.

  • Use heating pads to help you relax and ease the cramps.

  • Do some basic yoga exercises.

While those tips help relieve my cramps to some extent, these solutions don’t solve my other problems like hormonal acne, bloating, nausea, and mood swings. The truth is the big overarching problem is the hormonal imbalances in our bodies that cause these symptoms.

So I Had To Look For Other Solutions Online on How to Relieve These Symptoms of Hormonal Imbalances That Cause PMS
